چکیده

We establish the well-posedness, the finite speed propagation, and a regularity result for Maxwell’s equations in media consisting of dispersive (frequency dependent) metamaterials. Two typical examples for such metamaterials are materials obeying Drude’s and Lorentz’ models. The causality and the passivity are the two main assumptions and play a crucial role in the analysis. It is worth noting that by contrast the well-posedness in the frequency domain is not ensured in general. We also provide some numerical experiments using the Drude’s model to illustrate its dispersive behaviour. MSC. 35B34, 35B35, 35B40, 35J05, 78A25, 78M35.

New derived finite-difference frequency-domain method used for band structure analysis of 2-D EBG structure composed of Drude-type dispersive media

Electromagnetic wave properties in metamaterials including electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures have been widely investigated due to their inherent capabilities for developing novel devices in the fields of optics, microwave and antenna engineering. In reality, most of the materials are dispersive or frequency-dependent, on the other hand, it is important to investigate how the performance...

Anderson localization in metamaterials and other complex media (Review Article)

This is a review of some recent (mostly ours) results on Anderson localization of light and electron waves in complex disordered systems, including: (i) left-handed metamaterials, (ii) magnetoactive optical structures, (iii) graphene superlattices, and (iv) nonlinear dielectric media. First, we demonstrate that left-handed metamaterials can significantly suppress localization of light and lead ...

Implementation of dispersion-free slow acoustic wave propagation and phase engineering with helical-structured metamaterials

The ability to slow down wave propagation in materials has attracted significant research interest. A successful solution will give rise to manageable enhanced wave-matter interaction, freewheeling phase engineering and spatial compression of wave signals. The existing methods are typically associated with constructing dispersive materials or structures with local resonators, thus resulting in ...

Electromagnetic wave propagation in the wire medium: a complex medium with long thin inclusions

The wire medium is a type of complex artificial material we conceptually envision as many identical finitelength, parallel, thin wire inclusions embedded within a host medium. It is representative of a class of novel artificial materials characterized by long thin inclusions. Unlike some conventional artificial material, the inclusions of this class are not necessarily electrically short. Here,...
